No matter where you end up going for your road trip, your Toyota Corolla should be prepared properly. If it is not, then you can easily get stuck somewhere on a deserted road with no help. This will give you even more stress. Therefore, if you are planning a road trip, make sure your car is up for the long hassle and is properly maintained.

What You Should Check

Fluids

A car consists of certain fluids that you need to properly check before taking your car out on the road. These fluids include

  • Antifreeze/coolant
  • Brake fluid
  • Engine oil
  • Gasoline
  • Power steering fluid
  • Radiator coolant
  • Transmission fluid
  • Windshield washer fluid

Belts And Hoses

You need to make sure there are no loose connection, and if there are, then you should fix them instantly and make them more secure and tight.

Tires

Your tires are the main part of the car that are in contact with the road. Therefore, you need to make sure that there is proper traction. You also need to make sure that your tires are properly inflated. Over or under inflation can lead to tire and car problems later on.

Lights

You need to make sure that your blinkers, interior lighting, and headlights are properly functioning. This is especially important if you have to travel at night. You can also get into trouble with the police if your lights are not functioning properly.

Brakes

The braking system of your car needs to be in proper functioning order so that you can avoid any unnecessary accidents. You should especially get your brakes checked if you feel the pedals to be soft or spongy.

Battery

Your battery needs to be in tip top condition before you head out for your long road trip. After all, you would not want to have to jumpstart your car right in the middle of nowhere. While checking your engine, you should also get the ignition and electrical systems checked.

Toyota Camry

Toyota Camry

If your car hasn't been its usual self lately, you should waste no time in taking it to a qualified and professional technician. The sooner you can get the repairs in order, the better and less costly it will prove to be especially if it saves the components and the cars condition from worsening. Here are the top indicators that are telling you that your Toyota Camry needs a tune up.

1. The car's filter can be the cause of the car losing power. A dirty filter is directly linked to poor gas mileage.

2. You should get your car to a reliable mechanic if it becomes difficult to start your car. If you hear the engine cranking up then the problem should lie in the starting sensor. Remember, you can't just pop the hood to see if everything is in place, almost all the times the problem is with the ignition system so you need a technician to fix it.

3. It is recommended that you keep the car mileage you have in check. Once you check the miles driven divided by the gallons, you can tell whether or not the engine is losing its efficiency. Once this happens, your car could need several things in a tune up. It could be the misaligned wheels, transmission malfunction, cold engine, underinflated tires etc.

4. When the car engine is under a lot of load, you can hear a knocking sound. It is the same one that you hear when you are riding your car uphill. The culprit could be anything, it could be that the tank is filled with inferior gas or that engine is accumulating carbon.

5. If your car is stalling, you need a professional to have a look at it. Stalling is caused by the incorrect idle speed adjustment, sensor malfunction, or simply dirty fuel system components.

6. Check for exhaust odor. The odor can be due to the car's emissions system facing problems or a sure sign that the car's catalytic converter is damaged.

7. An engine that runs rough is yet another sign that your car is way over due for a tune up. In this case, the damage is caused in two places, i.e. the ignition or fuel system, which is suffering from a bad piston or valve.

2014 Toyota 4Runner

Toyota 4Runner

Taking care of the car's exterior is part of making sure that your car lasts longer too. Here is how you maintain the shining glory of your used Toyota 4Runner.

Use The Right Products

You cannot just start cleaning your car armed with a water hose and old Sunday clothes. Your car deserves to be washed by the proper tools that are there in the market for this very purpose. Purchase the micro fiber paint safe mitt, if you do not have this, you can always switch to a cotton mitt. There are companies that offer products that are pH balanced. There are even the non detergent formulas that preserve the wax coat on the exterior. Plus, think about investing in lubricants to prevent scratches and give the car a shiny finish.

Don't Forget To Dry Your Car

Now remember the most important part of all: drying your car after you have washed it. This way you are avoiding the water spots, mineral deposits etc. You can even get paint safe and lint free drying cloth products, which are highly absorbent and do the job right.

It's A Different Game, Washing A Car That Has Seen Too Much Road

It could be that washing your car is not enough. You could have taken the Toyota on an off-road trip or an interstate long road trip. There is bug residue, tree sap, pollution, road grime etc. that you have to deal with. You can always use the detailing clay, which is great for protecting your paint. First, you spray the area that needs cleaning, then you smooth the clay along the surface of the paint. Remember that this detailing clay bar does not (no matter what some people say) get rid of swirl marks, scratches, or tar and insect deposits.

Why Does the Paint Look Dull?

Dull paint could be due to a paint job with oxidized paint. This is not as bad a thing as it sounds because all you need at that point is the car polish or a rubbing compound. The thing is that rubbing compounds remove most of the paint application, but it is a rather aggressive sort of element and you should have an expert take a look at your existing paint job before you go to work.

Toyota Corolla

Used Toyota Corolla

Let's begin with why you need the correct car tire pressure in your Toyota Corolla. The first thing that a driver would experience with the right tire pressure is the comfort, performance, and durability that you receive when you are driving through rough terrain or through exhausting and long driving routes. But that's not all. The right tire pressure allows for proper tread, which prevents tread squirm. Moreover, it ensures balancing of rolling resistance and heat buildup.

Do You Even Know The Correct Tire Pressure?

Having the correct tire pressure for your Toyota Corolla is extremely vital. Most people inflate the tire to the pressure that has been listed on the tire, this is a bad idea. The tire pressure listed on the tire is actually the maximum that the tire can hold. However on some cars the tire pressure is written on a sticker inside the door. But just to be safe, it's recommended that you take the time out to consult the car's manual.

Check Tire Pressure When Cold

Now most mechanics will tell you that the pressure in the car tires should be up to 32 to 35 psi when they are cold. This means that checking the tire pressure when they are cold avoids the state of the tire when it has been rolling along the road and catching on the immense friction. Cold tire can be checked when your Toyota has been sitting idle overnight or even when you park it for a few hours after driving it for only a little while.

In Any Case, Inadequate Pressure Is A Bad Thing

Over-inflating the tires can cause the driver to have difficulty while handling the car and it will definitely lead to a bouncy ride. On the other hand, tires that have not been inflated up to the proper pressure can wear out faster than guaranteed.

Tires do not only demand your attention when something goes wrong. In fact, they should be the component that you have the details on every day. Tires lose pressure little by little on a daily basis. In colder weather the tires will lose pressure by a pound or two every month while in warmer weathers the tires will lose relatively more air.

2014 Toyota Avalon

Toyota Avalon

These blog posts are from guest authors who bought cars from us and wanted to share their stories.

I have always wanted to be the center of attention. Being a Leo, I crave attention, and I was certainly not getting much of it until a little while ago. I have recently gotten a new job that pays really well. It is because of this job that I can now own my luxurious baby, the Toyota Avalon. I simply love the car. However, it is an even more popular item amongst my colleagues who keep talking about it with me and ask me to take them on long trips. So now, I am the guy with a great job, a big fancy car, and most certainly a lot of attention.

I could not believe that a single car would do so much for me. Even when I go to gatherings and parties, everyone is literally staring at me when I get out of the car. Then, these people make it a point to come up to me, strike up a conversation, and mention the car somewhere in the conversation as well. Did I tell you I even met my future wife this way? She was at this glamorous party where I got invited to as well. At the time, she was dating someone else. However, she saw me get off my car and was instantly attracted towards me. She came to me at some point at the party and we instantly connected and spoke for hours. After about a month of dating, we were married.

It is amazing how your entire life can transform in front of your eyes with a single car. Without a doubt, this car has done wonders for me and I love it. The 2014 Toyota Avalon will be my first and last love, no matter how many times I change my car.
