Weather changes can cause great wear and tear in your Toyota Camry. You might not be able to notice it, but that does not mean it is not happening. Here are a few tips you should consider to ensure the well being of your car during the summer months:

Cooling System

You should also keep the coolant levels and the radiator of your car in strict check so that your engine can perform optimally. Make sure to flush your radiator of residual matter such as metal bits and rust. Your coolant levels should also be according to the maximum and minimum levels indicated and its viscosity should be checked.

Battery

With the summer coming in, you are likely to make use of your car air conditioner. This puts some strain on your battery. Apart from this, your battery is likely to get affected by other troubles that come with an increase in outside temperature. Make sure to check the cables and terminals for any corrosion and get them cleaned. Sulphuric acid is the major source of corrosion.

Engine Oil

The engine oil keeps your engine well protected by lubricating engine parts and preventing wear and tear. However, as time goes by, the engine oil can lose viscosity and the power to lubricate effectively, thereby damaging the engine. Keep the engine oil in check for better engine performance.

Paint
The summer sun can easily take the shine off your once gleaming paint. The fading of the paint can be prevented by washing your car regularly and removing all the corrosive material and dirt. Also make use of polish or rubbing wax once in a month so that your paint job can last longer. Take precaution to park your car in a shaded spot or keep your car covered.

Taking care of your car in the summer heat is of utmost importance and you should be sure to always keep it maintained to optimal working conditions so as to prevent long term damages. Toyota 4Runner

Used Toyota 4Runner

These blog posts are from guest authors who bought cars from us and wanted to share their stories.

Ever since I was a young boy, I had a very obvious adventurous side to my personality. I clearly remember my very first camping trip with my father when I was ten, and ever since then I was smitten with nature. As I got older and more independent, I knew that I had to have a ride that matched my exuberant personality and my need to go on long adventures. The car I owed previously did not have the off-road capabilities that I was looking for.

It was around two months ago that I found MY ride, the 2010 Toyota 4 Runner, all thanks to my best friend who told me about it. The car is beyond amazing and handles like a pro when I have to go hiking or places where you cannot find proper roads to drive on. Also, did I mention how comfortable it is and has room for all my gear and equipment that I have to carry during my adventures. The car is surely big and has a lot of capacity. My friends love travelling with me sometimes and I love taking them along. One day my friends actually decided to stay over at my place so that I would not forget to take them along (I"m suspecting it's more the love for the car as opposed to the love for me).

The 2010 Toyota 4Runner is a great car and I highly recommend it for all those people who have a personality like mine, i.e. adventure seeking and free spirited. Not only will you get a car that is great for the city and getting your everyday chores done, the car is also great for off the road adventures, thereby giving it multipurpose capabilities. My love for this car is still growing, despite the fact that it has been with me for two months now, and I"m suspecting that this love will continue to grow.

Toyota Highlander

Toyota Highlander

In order to maintain your Toyota Highlander‘s suspension, you first have to understand it. A little research can help you identify the symptoms as they show up and take action accordingly. If you fail to take the maintenance of your suspension seriously, it can have many adverse effects on your car that will likely cost you more down the road. The adverse effects can range from faulty handling, irregular braking and acceleration, and your tires will wear down quickly as well. It is therefore vital to follow the guidelines mentioned bellow.

Suspension is the name given to the system of linkages and shock absorbers that connects a vehicle to its wheels. A vehicle's suspension comprises of 4 basic components that are the struts, springs, shock absorbers, and tires. Struts and shock absorbers are vital for on road performance as its main function is keeping the tires connected evenly to the road, and maintaining its vertical position. However shock absorber is a whole other thing; it does exactly what the name suggests, absorbing shocks. It can perform as much as one thousand movements per kilometer, maybe more depending on the condition of the road. The spring's function is to support the weight of the car and allow the chassis to ride without disturbance.

Common Problems

Some parts in the suspension systems, mainly struts assemblies and shock absorbers need to be replaced more often than other parts. These parts counter the spring action of the car preventing it from bouncing excessively while driving. They may wear down, get cracked, or leak. One of the very common signs of faulty struts and shocks is that the front part of the vehicle dips far more than normal when you brake. Most springs last the entire life span of the car but they can break as well; this can be due to carrying loads weighing more than the spring can handle or driving in rough terrain for prolonged periods of time.

Testing your suspension

Suspensions can be checked easily with a few tests. You can drive for a while, window down while listening for clanking or squeaking sounds coming from the wheels. Check tire pressure and try to maintain it at an optimum level, as low pressure are hard on the suspension system. Vibrations are another sign that tires need air. The best thing to do would be to drive to an auto repair center if you notice anything out of the ordinary.

Toyota 4Runner

Used Toyota 4Runner

The Toyota 4Runner is an impressive heavy-duty vehicle, capable of maneuvering any terrain while carrying heavy luggage and more than 6 people. Heavy-duty vehicles have an elaborate cooling system that requires regular check and maintenance. It is essential for extending the life of your engine and keep it running at its peak. Around 2 thirds of the car's power source, fuel, is converted into heat. It's the cooling system's job to convert it to air. The cooling system components encompass the radiator, balance of fluids, water pump, thermostat and the fan. There are maintenance precautions every car owner should follow, consider the following when facing minor problems with your Toyota 4Runners cooling system.

Before I begin here is something important you should know about the coolant. Cooling systems contain both coolant and water. The coolant is a green fluid that contains ethylene glycol; this chemical raises the car's water boiling point, making it perfect for auto radiators. It also suppresses rust.

Here are a few things that can go wrong and how you can counter them:

  • The system can leak. If your car is getting warmer than usual, turn off the engine, and look beneath the car. If you see green liquid dripping, open the bonnet. Do you hear funny noises? A heated and leaking cooling system will make a whistling sound, the kind a teakettle makes. Carefully open the radiator to get a look inside. If there is enough fluid in there, there might be something seriously wrong with the engine. If there is a mechanic close to your home take it there for an inspection; remember to look at the temperature gauge closely as you drive.
  • If your vehicle is running fine, and is just a little hot, and water is not coming out of your tailpipe, you don’t have a blown gasket. If you would like to fix the problem by yourself, park but keep the engine running. Watch the temperature gauge to see if it heats up. If it's getting near the red line and the fan does not start, you only need to replace the bad sensor.
  • If there is no issue with the fan and the system isn't leaking but the temperature is still climbing, you likely have a bad thermostat. Let it cool down, and replace the faulty thermostat.

If you live somewhere in Washington, PA visit Washington Auto mall. You can get more tips on maintaining you vehicle's cooling system, to keep it functioning flawlessly for the foreseeable future.
