The Toyota 4Runner, though an excellent off road SUV, has always been outshone by its bigger brother, the Toyota Land Cruiser. What many don't realize is that the Toyota LC and 4Runner are completely different vehicles, the latter costing almost twice as much as the 4Runner.
The basic architecture of the 4Runner borrows many elements from its first cousin, the now discontinued FJ Cruiser. For example, it boasts a rugged truck based rear axle that many crossover SUVs of today tend to shy away from. All of the trim levels of the 4Runner are powered by a 4 liter V6 engine that can produce up to 270 horses under the hood along with 278 pounds of torque per feet. Just like the engine, transmission choice is also limited to a five speed automatic. However, drive train choices vary from a rear wheel to a 4 wheel drive system. The 4WD is further divided into fulltime and part time systems.
Even though the 4Runner sports truck based mechanics reminiscent of 90's SUVs, you won't be able to guess that by looking at the exterior styling of the 4Runner. It seems as modern as any other crossover SUV, with an aggressive front bull bar and sharp corners that make it seem as menacing as ever. Though both the FJ and 4Runner share the same basic platform, the latter is much larger than the Cruiser.
Three trim levels are available for the Toyota 4Runner; the base SR5, Trail and the top of the line Limited. Standard features on the SR5 include alloys, air conditioning, skid prevention plates, fog lights, cruise control, parking cameras, power windows/mirrors/seats, adjustable steering column, Bluetooth connectivity and a huge touch screen console placed in the center of the dashboard that works with the Entune syncing system. The Trail, which is the most common trim among used Toyota 4Runner models at Washington Toyota, upgrades the features list with crawl control, upgraded tires and even water resistant upholstery.
If you want to go all out, we prefer getting the Limited trim which features pretty much everything on the list. From adaptive suspension dampers to dual zone climate control, you'll be getting most of the essential features in the Limited trim. Some of the used Toyota 4Runner models we have in stock at Washington Toyota also boast a KDSS along with GPS navigation systems.
