The moment you sit behind the wheel of a car, you take on a serious responsibility. Being a good driver is crucial in order to stay as safe as possible on the road. Reckless driving can put you at a huge risk for minor and serious collisions; some can even be fatal. It can also lead to countless traffic tickets and higher auto insurance. The best way to stay safe on the road is to be a defensive driver. To learn how, check out the following tips.

Focus: Defensive drivers focus on the task at hand, concentrating on the road and keeping their hands on the wheel. They also don't let other things distract them, such as:

  • eating

  • applying makeup

  • tending to children

  • talking on the phone

  • texting

Keep Eyes Moving: When driving, it can be much too easy to zone out. That's why it's important to keep your eyes moving every few seconds. Scanning the road ahead, checking your mirrors, and watching out for potential hazards and slowing traffic can help you anticipate problems before they develop. In turn, you and your passengers will be much safer.

Stay Alert: Staying alert is vital to on-road safety. That's why it's very important to never get behind the wheel of a car when tired, upset, or under any other circumstance that may decrease your driving ability.

Obey Speed Limit: For many, speeding is much too easy to do. But, that doesn't make it a good idea. Speeding is dangerous and is one of the leading causes of accidents. Slow down and obey the speed limit in order to increase safety and avoid expensive traffic tickets.

Don't Tailgate: Tailgating is one of the most dangerous things to do. Driving too close to the car in front of you leaves little to no space to slow down and stop if they suddenly step on the brakes. This can lead to serious collisions. Also, if you hit a car from behind, you are deemed at fault no matter the situation because you were obviously too close to stop in time. To avoid tailgating, remember to keep at least two car lengths between you and the vehicle in front of you.

Tame Road Rage: Road rage doesn't just make you angry, it also leads to potentially dangerous situations. Just because you suffer the wrath of an aggressive driver or one who doesn't drive well, doesn't mean you should retaliate! Instead, take the passive approach; it could save you from an accident – and high blood pressure!

Toyota Highlander

You just left the dealership in your brand-new 2016 Toyota Highlander. To say you're excited is the understatement of a lifetime! You can't wait to show it off to everyone you know – even strangers on the street. This is the car you are going to keep forever. Well, what if it isn't? Whether you can believe it in this moment or not, one day you may want to sell that car of yours. When the time comes, you better be prepared. Selling a car takes time, research, and commitment. Selling a car online … well, that takes a double dose of all of these things. If you one day opt to sell your Highlander online, here are some things you should know.

When a car is sold via newspaper classifieds, sales are typically local, which allows the buyer to personally inspect the car (as well as the seller), test drive it, and even take it to a mechanic for an inspection. Selling a car online, however, is much different. As many as 75% of by-owner, online used car sales are long-distance transactions that are finalized without the buyer seeing or test-driving the vehicle. Because of this, sellers must be more creative and do a bit more work in order ot make their vehicle stand out to potential buyers.

Commitment: Play hard or go home. This saying couldn't be more true when it comes to online car sales. To make your sale quick and successful, you must be fully committed ever step of the process. The less effort you make, the less successful your sale will be.

Research: If we could all sell our cars for the price we really wanted for them, we'd all do it in a heartbeat. Unfortunately, the price your vehicle needs to be is the amount the average buyer thinks is fair and is also willing to pay. Researching the value of your car via sites like AutoTrader.com and Kelly Blue Book will help you determine the right price for you car.

Description: Photos are great, so be sure to include as many as you can, but don't forget to also write a great description of your car to go along with them. Descriptions should be creative and thorough. A descriptive lead-in about the cool features or impeccable, shiny paint job will draw buyers in, so play up the perks of your car first, followed by the basics like power doors and windows.

Respond: When you try to sell a car online, you should include all of your contact info. This being said, whether you have potential buyers contacting you by phone, email or some other device, be sure to always pick up the phone and respond to the email! This importance of this point can not be stressed enough. Potential buyers have thousands of car ads they can respond to, so when you don't answer their call or respond to their email in a timely manner, interested buyers will quickly move on, leaving you without a sale.

Toyota Tundra

Maybe you're new in town, or maybe you've never owned a car until now. But when you opt for a brand-new 2016 Toyota Tundra, you're going to want to find the best mechanic around in order to keep your truck in optimal condition. Easier said than done, right? Finding a mechanic isn't hard because there aren't many out there; instead, finding a mechanic proves difficult because there are so many! Driving around town, you'll most likely spot several. Search online and you'll find even more. But, how do you choose?

When deciding on a mechanic, you want to make sure you find someone you can trust to work on your car and to give you a fair price. To find a mechanic that fits your requirements, continue reading.

Ask Friends: Friends are there to help you in good car times and bad car times, so why not seek their advice during your journey for a mechanic. Asking friends, even those distance ones via FaceBook, is a great way to get a quick and easy referral to a worthwhile mechanic. Everyone knows the aggravation of car trouble, so most are more than willing to give you their honest opinion.

Do Your Research: Finding a good mechanic by asking friends for their advice is a great way to start. But, you may also want to do some research of your own. Hope online and go to sites like Yelp, Google, and the Better Business Bureau. Here you'll find customer ratings and reviews that may help you make a decision.

Years in Business: A good way to learn if a mechanic is trustworthy is to find out how long they've been in business. Mechanics that have been around for a long time typically stay in business because they have their customers best interests at heart, making them trustable. Many of these mechanics are also more affordable because they don't charge excessively for labor and parts.

Face to Face: If you're more of a hands-on person, you may want to take the time to visit a mechanic/car shop in person before entrusting them with your car. This way, you are able to investigate what type of customer service they provide, along with other things, such as: do they talk down to you, do they value your thoughts and respect you, do they appear knowledgeable, and do they seem to want to pressure you into certain opting for certain car services.
